Dear Bambinos, You Were Born On This Day

I can't believe you are two years old today! The joy you have brought to our lives is amazing and unequal to anything else I've ever experienced. I have some big things planned for you today, but first, let me tell you more about of the day you were born.

When we left off yesterday, Dr Wallace and another doctor had just walked in, and I was laid out like Jesus.

Maybe 4 minutes after Daddy walked into the room, they were cutting me up and bringing out Peanut. There was this big drape in front of me so I couldn't see anything, but Dr Wallace asked Daddy if he wanted to see, so Daddy peeked over the drape and watched them pull Peanut out. I asked Daddy later what he saw and he told me I wouldn't want to know but there was a lot of blood - Daddy saw my guts boys!

Daddy couldn't look for long because I kept feeling nauseous. Because of the spinal, it felt like someone was sitting on my chest and so it was hard to talk. I'd whisper, "Sick," through my oxygen mask and Daddy would tell the anesthesiologist I needed more of the medicine. Seconds later, I would feel better...I'm telling you the anesthesiologist was wonderful!
Hearing Peanut's cry for the first time, my eyes welled up with tears as I tried to blink them back. I tried so very hard to hold myself together but I was so happy to hear the cries of my baby and know that this little person I had worried about for so long was just fine. He was perfect.

Two minutes later, Dr Wallace pulled out Bug. He also came out screaming and crying just like his big brother. I told Daddy to leave me and get pictures. I wanted pictures of everything! As the nurses cleaned you up at the warmers and wrapped you in blankets, I heard one nurse say something like, "C'mon little guy," to Bug and again I became terrified. I was so worried that you two were not perfectly healthy as it's really common for twins. He cried and cried and at that point I knew everything was going to be OK. The nurses briefly brought you over to meet me before taking you back to the warmers.

I wanted nothing more than to hold you at that instant, but I had to wait until the doctors had sewn me back up and I was transferred back to the birthing room. I couldn't wait to get the both of you exactly where you were supposed to be: in my arms.

Daddy came back to sit by me while Dr Wallace stitched me up and we listened to him talk to the other doctor about Vegas and the shows they'd seen last time they'd visited, it was just another day at the office for those two! Minutes later, the nurses handed you off to Daddy and we took our first family photos.

It killed me not being able to hold you, but I got my chance soon because all three of us were wheeled in our beds back to the original room. And I'll tell you the rest of that story tomorrow.

Happy Birthday my little Bambinos, I love you with all my heart forever and ever.

  2. Happiest birthday to your precious boys! It's so cute how they've looked like themselves since the moment they were born. Most babies don't really look like themselves yet--but yours totally did! I'm sure they will have a fantastic birthday--send pics! xoxo

  3. Happy Birthday to the cutest twins in the west! I love this post. The little A and B hats are so funny. It is crazy how they look the same now. Usually newborns are pretty creepy looking, but your boys look just like they do today!

  4. I was thinking the same thing as ms. Mindless! So many babies come out looking so different than they do as they get older but those little guys look the same! What little cuties.
