Unnecessary Mommy Must-Haves

Every mom ends up with some stuff she thought she would use and just didn't. I was no exception.

Bottle Sterilizer - I barely used this. I thought I would use it a lot more since we don't even have a dishwasher, but I felt like I did a pretty good job hand washing everything. I didn't think it was necessary to sterilize everything. I did tend to use it a lot more if the Bambinos were sick but I didn't use it after every feeding like I thought I would, and I certainly didn't use it every time the Bambinos dropped their binky.
I don't think ours was Avent, but it was very similar

Bottle Drying Rack - We used one up until just a few months ago, but I don't love the one we had. The top rack was always falling onto the top of the bottles, there was really no way to keep all the pieces of our bottles from falling off, it was all around awkward so while I would suggest a bottle drying rack, I would not suggest ours.

Next time, I want to try one more like this.

Dr Browns Bottles - When I found out I was pregnant with twins, I was terrified one (or both) of the babies would be colicky. I thought two babies would be hard enough to manage let alone one or two colicky babies too. I did a lot of research and found that Dr. Browns bottles were supposed to be the best for preventing colic, so we stocked up.

Ending up with two easy babies, the bottles were unnecessary and had too many pieces. If they weren't lined up just right, they had to be completely upright in our travel cooler or they would leak everywhere. I can't tell you how many times I was disappointed to find that my liquid gold (breastmilk) had leaked. Next time, I think we'll try the Tommee Tippee bottles, I have friends that have used both and like the Tommee Tippee ones.

I raved before about my nursing pillow and although it was a God-send letting me nurse both at once, I let the Bambinos nurse for a long time (sometimes up to 50 minutes) which is why I think I had enough supply to exclusively breastfeed. My problem with my pillow was, I was often hunched over for up to 50 minutes at a time, causing my back to ache. Next time, I think I will try the double My Breast Friend pillow instead. Bethenny Frankel uses the single so it must be good, right?

What items did you think you absolutely needed to have and ended up not using?

  1. We have the Boon grass drying rack and LOVE it! Although I wish I would've seen sooner that they have Boon "Lawn" which is bigger and I could totally use the extra space. We also use Tommee Tippee bottles and those have worked realy well for us. But the one item I think is a must have (and I tell every preggo to get!) is the Fisher Price Rock N Play Sleeper - BEST thing I ever registered for. V slept in it for the first 2 months and now just for naps but that thing's amazing! Having that made having our play yard with bassinet unnecessary (for now) because she's never slept in it!

  2. I used the my breast friend when nursing Reagan and registered for the twin one. Was it really difficult to nurse both babies? Did you do them at the same time??

  3. That grass bottle drying rack is so cute! I'm sure a lot of these products/baby things are just trial-&-error; you never really know what you're gonna love until you try it.

  4. We have the Boon grass thing and really love it. We use it every single day!

  5. Thanks for sharing! I originally registered for Dr Browns but ended up getting a ton of Medela bottles for my pump ... so I hope those work and they don't have as many pieces! Woo hoo!

  6. I had a My Breast Friend and LOVED IT! I only bf'd for 3 months due to Alexander's flat tongue (i.e LOADS of pain on my end) but that thing was a god send. We never used his bouncy chair. You know the one that sits on a counter and you can program it to bounce/vibrate? Naw, he hated it. We'd just lay him on a blanket and he was happier. I didn't use the Bumbo chair as much either. He was crawling at 6 months so I could never get the kid to stop!

  7. I don't think I had anything I didn't really use. Since we didn't get many shower gifts, we were left to buy a lot ourselves, I really thought about the products I bought and what would be the best thing to spend money on.

I think the waste of money was on a diaper pail. We just took them out to the trash if they were stinky. :)

  8. I was head over heels in love with my bottle warmer. Since I wasn't able to produce enough breastmilk, I had to stick with formula. That bottle warmer shaved a lot of time off warming up the bottle in the middle of the night. It also doubled as a binky and nipple sanatizer!

    Also, nipple shields lol.

  9. So much crap was unused, such a shame...

  10. We used it all, Mye, I would just choose different items next time.

  11. I love this. It is so funny what one mom thinks was a complete waste another loves with her whole being and could not live without. I used my sterilizer like it was going out of style. AND Dr. Browns bottles. So did not need a wipey warmer. Pfft!!! Some, love em. To each their own, I suppose. I still ove seeing what others love/hate. :)

I'd love to hear what you have to say, I always ALWAYS write back so please make sure you have an email attached to your profile :)
