The Hunger Games Movie

Boyfriend and I went to go see The Hunger Games in IMAX last night.

Loved it!

I won't spoil the movie at all, so I'll just talk about the cast. First, does Jennifer Lawrence remind anyone else of a young Elizabeth Hurley in this pic? I think it's the squinty eyes and full lips.
I didn't really pay attention to all the hubbub when the news of the cast came out 'cause I hadn't read the books yet. But let me tell you, Jennifer Lawrence was phenomenal. She was the prefect Katniss and reminded me of Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider.

I didn't expect Gale to be so hot. I guess in my imagination, Peeta was the more attractive one but, in my opinion, Gale was the more attractive character in the movie.

Once I realized he's Miley Cyrus's boyfriend, he lost a notch in my book though.

Elizabeth Banks nailed Effie Trinket. It took me a minute to realize it was even Elizabeth Banks. Even her walk was as ridiculous as I imagined. The costume people did such a good job making her as over the top as I expected.

I kept looking at her outfits and thinking that her shoes and some individual pieces of her outfit are very on-trend, but so exaggerated that she looks ridiculous. Of course, I loved her.

Lenny Kravitz was not nearly flamboyant and over the top as I imagined Cinna. His gold eyeliner just didn't convince me. As someone who's from the Capitol, he should have been just as over the top as Effie. I think he was a good pick casting-wise, but I expected more crazy costumes on him.

I would have expected Cinna to be dressed more like this.

Woody Harrelson plays the best kooky characters so I loved his portrayal of Haymitch. He has a way of making the most frustrating character likeable.  And I love Donald Sutherland so I was happy to see him in this movie. It'll be fun to see his portrayal in the other movies as the plot line thickens.

I think that I loved the movie more because I've read the books but even Boyfriend liked it and he hasn't read them. There was only one part that he said, "Wait, what just happened?" I gave him a two-word explanation and he got it. If you haven't seen the movie yet, I think you should, but I definitely think you should end up reading the books too.

  1. Ooooo...Thanks for the post! I was wondering if the movie was going to be as good as the book {obviously, I was going to see it no matter what}. But, after your post, I am def going to see it.

    Thanks again!

  2. We were in the same boat--I'd read it but Matt hadn't. He was slightly confused a couple of times, but nothing major. I loved the movie too! I said the same thing about Cinna (how he wasn't as flamboyant as I expected), but I loved Lenny Kravitz so much that I got over it. He was amazing! And Woody Harrelson was incredible--perfect casting. I can't get over how pretty Jennifer Lawrence is. Her skin glows!

  3. I loved it too!

Then hubby sent me this article: http://io9.com/5896475/everything-the-hunger-games-movie-left-out
and it made me wish it was a 6 hr movie that didn't leave out anything.

I think the only really important miss was THE HUNGER. Food. Lack of it. Devouring it on the train. They didn't seem hungry or starved at all.
