Girl Crush: Skylar Grey

One of the (awesome) benefits of radio are the unique opportunities we're given. Monday, we had a meet and greet/lobby concert with Skylar Grey.

Who's Skylar Grey? Only the awesome voice at the beginning of Dr Dre's "I need a doctor" Diddy Dirty Money's " Coming Home" and Lupe Fiasco's "Words I never said." (Lupe and Skylar Grey together? Yes please!)

Let me tell you, this girl is talented. She actually played the piano while she sang, and she sounds really good live - let's face it, not everyone does. She did a quick question and answer session for us and played us her new single. Before she left, she took pics with us and gave out autographs to those who asked.

She was super friendly and down to earth, and even her manager was nice and talkative. He sat and talked to our intern while Skylar was busy doing line drops in the studio. When our morning show producer asked her what it was like working with Dre, she said he was amazing and one of the nicest people.

I was already a fan of Skylar Grey but now I can't wait for her solo album to come out.

I'm In Love

I did my first Zumba class yesterday and let me tell you - I was made to Zumba! Yes, that's what I actually told Boyfriend when he asked how it was. It was so fun!
via

One of my biggest regrets has been giving up dancing when I was a little younger so Zumba was a super fun way to make me feel like I was still dancing/in the club/working out all at the same time. I definitely broke a sweat (I usually hate sweating) and the hour went by really quickly. My friend and I have already set up a time to go next week.

On a totally different note, if you follow me on Twitter, you may have already seen this but I'm pretty sure I should get the girlfriend of the year award after I brought home this gorgeous piece of deliciousness yesterday.

A gallon and a half of Coors Light!
B asked for a tall boy....is this tall enough?

Weekend Wrap Up: Fathers Day

What a weekend! Our involved a quick trip to Eastern Washington and, of course, Fathers Day.
I made decorations

I know it looks like a Kindergartener made this, I never said I was good at crafts!
The Bambinos got moustaches

I bought Boyfriend a fairly substantial present when I was on maternity leave, but I still wanted to get him something to open on Fathers Day. Last Thursday, Groupon had this thing for a golf swing analysis - perfect- Boyfriend loves golf. I bought it and put it in the bag with my pump thinking he'd never look in there.

An few hours later he was getting the little cooler of milk from me to bring home when he said, "Oh what's this?" and grabbed the Groupon out of the bag. "No, no NO!" I tried to stop him and snatched it away from him when he replied, "You can't expect me to just leave it alone when I see the word 'golf' sticking out of your bag. You could have just said it was for your Dad, he likes golf too." .....I'm such a bad liar.

Nevertheless, he didn't fully read the Groupon so he was a bit surprised on Fathers Day even though he knew he was getting something Golf related. Moral of the story: nothing's safe, not even in your breastpump bag.

One Year

One year ago today, our lives were forever altered.

It was one year ago that I found out I was pregnant.

I remember taking the test at 5am because although I was pretty sure, I wouldn't be able to sleep until I knew. After the clear, + came on the screen, I remember almost a feeling of relief coming over me. I took a deep breath, smiled and thought, "I'm going to be a mother."

I certainly couldn't go back to sleep due to the excitement. It killed me not being able to tell Boyfriend right away but I wanted to tell him in person so texting (the way we have to communicate in the morning since he's on-air) wasn't appropriate. When I finally saw him at work, it killed me not being able to share the exciting news, but work was not the appropriate place for such a private moment.

The only thing better than finding out I was pregnant was finding out it was twins, but I'll  never ever ever forget the feeling of finding out I was pregnant. This last year has definitely been the best year of my life, so far, and I thank God every day for my little family.

Hangover II

Last night we went to see Hangover II at iPic Theater. It's such a fun way to see a movie. One or Boyfriend's shows got a free screening so they did a fun event with raffles, drinks and food for all their network's hosts and their husbands/partners, and of course their producer and his girlfriend :)

Hangover II was good, but not as good as the first. I think by this point you expect Allen to say random things so it doesn't catch you off guard as much as the first. B and I were the youngest people in there so it was funny because we kept laughing at one-liners that nobody else got, specifically one about a Happy Ending.

Did anyone else recognize Lauren? She's Jamie from Real World San Diego. She seems to be making quite the career for herself as she was recently in Grown Ups with Adam Sandler also.

Seriously?

Seriously? Blogger is giving me major formatting issues, I've started this post three times.

Seriously? These are my nails right now. I've had to do them in stages and haven't had time to put the topcoat on -for three days!

Seriously? We're going out of town this weekend and still do not know where we're staying. Before you get all "Lindsay, you shouldn't tell people you're leaving! What if someone -" ....Boyfriend is staying home, he'll make sure no one tries to break in, plus, there's always Teddy for protection.

Seriously? I haven't done the Shred at all this week, except once, I was doing so well. I need to get back on that.

Seriously, I feel like all I ever do is pump, but don't want the Bambinos to take formula.

Seriously? I have some major coupons I need to clip out of the paper, from two weeks ago, I hope Boyfriend doesn't recycle it first.

What are you saying seriously to?

Book Swap Party

Today's the day! Thanks so much for participating in the Blogger Book Swap Party. I hope you had as much fun as I did and maybe even found some new blogs along the way...

I'll leave the linky below open until Friday so that if you haven't received your book yet you can still participate.

Now....for various reasons, I ended up with three partners. It's okay though I got a bunch of new books!

First, I received two from my Swap co-host Claire - and she wasn't even my partner! Claire sent me Love Walked In and the House on Mango Street.
Love Walked In: Sounds really good! It's narrated by two different people - Cornelia Brown, a cafe manager, and Clare, an eleven year old recently abandoned by her mother who is in search of her estranged father. Cornelia and Clare cross paths and form a friendship.

The House on Mango Street:   Esperanza doesn’t want to belong– not to her rundown neighborhood, and not to the low expectations the world has for her. Esperanza’s story is that of a young girl coming into her power, and inventing for herself what she will become.

Again, thank you Claire! you didn't have to send me anything!

Then, I received Blue Boods from Ritalee. It's about a girl in New York City who suddenly finds out she's a vampire. I've heard of this book before and can't wait to read it. I've heard it's quite a bit different than Twilight (which I've read) and the Sookie Stackhouse books (which I've read most of also.)

Blonde....Undercover Blonde sent me Following Polly. It's about a snoop who first follows Polly and ends up a suspect in her murder. Then she snoops on the guy who was her crush back in college. She hopes he can help her get off the murder suspect list, and he agrees to help her if she helps him with a problem his father's having. But then they realize they need each other so much more than what they originally expected.

I'm set to receive on more book but it's coming from Fiji so it hasn't arrived yet. How cool is that?! I'm in love with Fiji even though I've never been. I'm excited to see what Vanisha decided to send.

Want to dish on the books you received? Link up below and check out what other bloggers received to expand your summer reading list. Thanks everyone, for participating!

Salted Carmel Brownie Bites

If you follow me on Twitter, you know I attempted to make salted caramel brownie bites on Saturday. I thought the juxtaposition between salty and sweet would be really good (popcorn and m&ms anyone?)

I was super excited to try these 'cause I like caramel, I like brownies, and I like salt. There's just something about the smell of brownies baking in the oven - it brings back good childhood memories.

They were super easy to make:

1.Prepare your favorite brownie mix ( I used a Ghiradelli double chocolate one 'cause that's what we had)
2.Pour the brownie batter into mini muffin cups, do not fill them all the way. I did, thinking that brownies don't rise all the way to the top, but they got pretty close. Leave just a tiny space before the top of the mini cupcake liner.
3. Bake the brownies. Because  my mix does not give me a baking time for mini muffin tins, I started out with a timer at 10 minutes and kept checking on them so they didn't burn. I'd guess they ended up baking closer to 16 minutes.
4. As the brownies are cooling, push down in the middle with the back of a fork or spoon, you kind of want a pool for the caramel.

5. Melt the  caramel. The directions I used said to melt the caramel according to the package directions. The caramel cubes I used had three different melting directions: one for caramel apples, caramel popcorn (yum!) and something else. I decided to follow the directions for apples.
6.My directions said to put the caramel in a microwave-safe bowl for 2.5 minutes and to stir it after every 30 seconds. DO NOT do it that way - too high of a temp will make your caramel hard after it cools. Next time, I will probably stir after every 10 seconds. (So I guess the step above telling you to melt based on directions is false, huh?)
7.Once your caramel is melted, drip some into the little pool you made in each brownie.
8. Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top (because I didn't want to touch the salt, I tried to gently shake a little from the container. Bad idea, some of them got too much salt. Wash your hands and pinch a few pieces of salt on the caramel.)
9.Voila! you have salted caramel brownie bites, and a yummy smelling kitchen.

If I were to do this again (which I know I will - I'm determined to get them perfect,) I would:
a) Not melt the caramel too quickly on too high of a temperature
and
b) Not pool so much caramel.
When you ate them, the brownie and caramel separated so you ended up gnawing on this tough chunk of caramel for awhile. I thought the caramel would be softer like the caramel cubes I used, and I thought it would drizzle a little more, so that's what I'll strive for next time.

If you end up trying this recipe PLEASE tell me how they turned out.

PS
If you participated in the book swap, the link party is tomorrow! Get ready to show off your books!

What a Difference Some White Makes

Over the weekend, we bought this beautiful piece of furniture:
Please ignore the crap thrown on top, I suck at making vignettes
Okay, so I know it's not beautiful, but it's much better than what we had there before: the sofa table Boyfriend made me for Christmas when I still lived in my apartment, our glass-top coffee table because we need the space in the living room and the two infant car seats sitting on top of the coffee table..... and we needed some place to put baby toys, they now belong in the bottom bin.

After assembling the...thing....what is that called anyway? IKEA calls it a bookshelf, we'll go with that. After assembling the bookshelf, I loved the airy-ness the white brought into the room, so I looked around to see what else I could paint.

This wall has never felt quite right to me. The sconces and speakers are leftover from Boyfriend's bachelor days and I don't have the heart to make him take them down. I know I need something by the door, but am not quite sure what yet. So I decided to paint.

I had visions of a white, curvy mirror and white picture frames on that wall. The wall perpendicular to it is a deep brown so I felt all the black furniture makes it too dark and depressing. I hightailed it to Lowes and got to painting.

At first, I was getting this cool black and white effect that really brought out the curves in the mirror, except I couldn't leave it like that because I had already sprayed o much paint on some parts of the mirror. I always spray too much paint- who would've known there's a method to spray painting!

I'm not sure I like it this way either. I really need to finish this wall and  I kind of want to use a glaze to help the curves really stand out. Any one got some glazing tips for me?

So What Wednesday

It's So What Wednesday!
Link with Life After I Dew if you want to say So What too.

So What if I slept instead of working out on Monday morning...or maybe I blogged, I don't remember.
So What if I wore my maternity skinny jeans yesterday.
I don't want to buy new ones and need to lose a little more weight before I even attempt to put on my pre-maternity ones.
So What if I totally wore my sweater backwards yesterday. Otherwise, it has this big hole in the front that is not cute. It looks better backwards.
So What if every time someone compliments me on the sweater, I tell them it's backwards - I think it's funny.
So What if it's 5:17am and I'm blogging instead of going back to sleep or working out. The Bambinos are fed and that's all that matters. I'm going in late to work today anyway.
So What if I'm totally over Seattle's schizo weather. It was nice and hot (high 70s) this weekend, rained yesterday and is supposed to be sunny today.
So What if I can't see myself living anywhere else. I love the Seattle area.
So What if I don't actually live in Seattle. For blogging purposes, it's easier to say I do.
So What if I totally want to change my blog layout. I've been to busy to mess with it and haven't looked up anyone who can do it for me.
So What if I realized I've written "totally" three times in this post, but I don't use it in real life.

Okay, I'm going back to bed now, what are you saying So What to?

Boyfriend's Playground: IKEA

If you follow me on Twitter, you've probably already seen these, but we found Boyfriend's playground on Friday: IKEA.

I was carrying Ethan so he didn't get posed at all. I kept worrying someone from IKEA would get mad and tell us to stop but nobody did. At 3pm on a Friday, there weren't a ton of people in there anyway.
