New Camera! I Need Your Help

I got a new camera two days ago. My other point and shoot is 7 or 8 years old so it was definitely time. I went with the Sony Cybershot DSC H55 because it has a 10x optical zoom, big viewing screen, decent video quality and this cool panoramic feature.

Please excuse the mess
The only problem is, I'm not sure I love the camera. Maybe I just don't have it on the right settings yet, but when I have it on auto (the setting I usually use) the colors of my pictures look really funny upon viewing them on the camera. The colors are off. When I uploaded them to my computer, they looked a little better, but I don't think I like the pictures as much as I like the pics from the fancy Nikon SLR I borrowed from my dad.
The new Sony

The older Nikon
There's barely a difference but when you look at them on the computer, you can tell the colors are a little more muted and the way I see them in real life in the Nikon's pictures.

Do you have a point and shoot camera? What kind do you have? Do you love it? Do you know of any "Photography for Dummy's" websites I should check out?

We Got Our stroller!

We got our stroller last night. I was fortunate enough to get enough Babies R Us gift cards that we didn't have to pay a dime or our stroller. We ended up getting the Baby Jogger City Mini Double Stroller and although I haven't used it out in the real world yet, I will today and I couldn't be more excited.
This will make life so much easier. Sunday B and I took the Bambinos to Costco and we had to put each car seat in the basket of a cart so even with two carts we didn't have much space for groceries. Can't wait to use our stroller!

An Item No Twin Mom Should Live Without

In the hospital, the lactation consultant helped me figure out how to nurse both babies at once. She had this pillow that really helped, especially because my hands are still falling asleep so I just plop them on the pillow and they eat.

I had a lot of anxiety about feeding them once I was discharged Wednesday evening. Their first feed at home was a disaster. I tried positioning pillows in the same U shape as the nursing pillow from the hospital but since the Bambinos are so small, they kept slipping down between the pillows. I think I ended up with six pillows and three blankets positioned so they wouldn't slip. The next day, Boyfriend looked up places where we could pick up the pillow but nowhere actually carried it in the store: Bed Bath and Beyond, Target, Wal-Mart, Babies R Us, literally nowhere carries the pillow in store.

Boyfriend saved the day by finding the pillow on Craigslist! The woman who owned it said she only used it once but I don't care how often she used it, we could always make a different cover for it. B drove all the way up to Bothell for the pillow and it was the same one we used in the hospital! (That lovely print in the pic above.) Since then, feeding the Bambinos has been so much easier and I can even position them myself when B's at work. If you or someone you know has twins, I would highly suggest getting this pillow, it makes feeding both of them at once so much easier!

New Blog

I'm kind of freaked out by my kids pictures being all over the internet and anybody reading anything they want about them so I started a new blog. I'm sticking with Undomestic Chica 'cause I love it, but my baby blog, 1+1=4 is going to be private. If you're interested in reading it, let me know! I guess you have to email me at and then I have to invite you to read it.

Acting nervous as he wheels me down to the OR
Our boys are here! The surgery literally took only one hour from the time we left the room to the time we came back to the room. I was super nervous about the spinal block and how painful I had heard they were. My anxiety was only worsened when they made Boyfriend quit pushing the bed and wait outside for a bit. I was planning on squeezing his hand if I was in pain, so like a big baby, I cried. The spinal didn't hurt at all, but I'm still upset they took so long to let Boyfriend back in the room.

I'm so impressed with what an amazing dad B is. He didn't have a ton of baby experience prior to Ethan and Eli coming, but he just jumped right in and not only does an amazing job taking care of them but taking care of me too. We never argue over who has to change a dirty diaper, one of us just does it. He forces me to take naps and has stayed on top of filling out the feeding/diaper chart we were given to make sure they're eating enough. He keeps track of all my medicines (hydracodone, iron, ibuprofen, etc.) and never complains when I need  to wake him up to help me position the babies for feeding - I'm feeding them together already. Today is his first day back at work and he's been such a great person to help raise Ethan and Eli with that I can't wait for him to come home.

Our Last Day as Non-parents: We're Going to Get My Babies!

These were taken yesterday at 38 weeks and one day. Notice the nice wrist brace? It's 'cause I'm so swollen that the fluid presses against my nerves and makes my hands fall asleep. Oh joy.

We're going to meet our babies today, wish us luck!

I Would Die For You

Before you were born, I loved you
Before you were an hour old, I would die for you

I think I want this in the babies' room. I'm thinking of making some kind of sign with this on it, what do you think? I'm not sure I want to mention dying in the nursery....

Thank you for all your well wishes yesterday, I'm so incredibly excited to meet them, although I will miss feeling them move inside me. I do have to admit, I'm kind of scared though. Everyone keeps telling me they're surprised at how calm I am for having twins. It's not the having two babies at once that scares me. I don't know any better. I don't know how much harder twins are than just one baby, and I worked with drug addicted newborns for five years. No, it's not the having twins that scares me.

It's the c-section.

I've never had major surgery. I was even awake when I had my wisdom teeth pulled (I wouldn't recommend it.) Boyfriend keeps telling me to remind myself that c-sections happen all the time, they have plenty of experience. I get that. But still I'm scared. With my over active imagination, I know that every little sound or thing the doctors or nurses say, I will think that something is going wrong. I just wish you could push my belly button and the babies would come out like my little sister used to think when she was little.

Best Birthday News Ever

Tuesday turned out to be a pretty good birthday. (Thank you for the birthday wishes.) I got to leave work early due to a doctor's appointment. I couldn't wait to give Boyfriend his presents so before the appointment I gave him his gifts: some coveralls so he won't get dirty when he goes under the house or works on his car, two T-shirts and then another one with young Michael Jackson came yesterday.

He got me an hour long Swedish Massage which I cannot wait to use soon.

After our doctor appointment, we met my dad, step-mom and little sister at Famous Dave's BBQ. It's the first time I've been there and it was pretty good (we got the family feast that serves 6) except the brisket tasted like smoke. Not just slightly smoked meat, it tasted like I was chewing on a campfire log. I tried so hard to choke down my bite of it and not be rude but I just couldn't do it. They're cornbread is really good though! I am kind of biased, I love cornbread.

Oh but the best part of the day? I'm scheduled for a c-section on Monday at 10:30am. We're finally going to have our little boys!

A Birthday Letter to My Bambinos

Last year on my birthday, I wrote this letter to myself. With the impending birth of my bambinos, I decided to write them a letter this year.

Dear Babies,
I'm so excited to meet you. I love you so much already and can't wait to shower you with that love. I'm going to make mistakes, but I'm glad to know you'll love me anyway. These nine months have changed my life in ways I never imagined possible. I've grown as a person and can't wait to keep growing along with you.

I wonder every day what you two will look like. I wonder if you'll have dimples since both me and Dad have them. Will you be darker, olive-skinned like dad, or lighter-olive like me? Will you have a full head of hair (my heartburn tells me you will.) Will you have mine or your dad's lips? Will you have our smiles? Will you two look alike or will one of you look like me and one like Daddy? Will you be tall like Dad or average height like me? I wonder what your temperaments will be like. Will you be goofy like Dad or more reserved like me? No matter what you look like or how you turn out to be, we will love you unconditionally.

I promise to play with you and be involved in your lives as much as possible. You'll have to learn to throw a ball and play sports from Dad though;  he's so much more athletic than I am. I will teach you to dance! Dad and I are both pretty smart so we'll both be able to help you with homework. Dad can teach you about cars and how to build things. He can't wait to play Legos with you. Once I figure out how, I'll teach you to cook....or maybe we'll just skip cooking 'cause I can bake! I'll try and not be an overbearing mom although I will want to protect you from ever getting hurt - I hope you two will understand it's just out of love. But I do promise to let you climb trees and build forts, and all those other fun things that little boys like to do.

I've been fixing up your nursery, trying to make it just perfect for you. I hope you like it. I imagine many years of fun and joy happening in your room. Daddy and I can't wait to read you stories in the rocker, pat your backs as you fall asleep and create so many memories with you. we love you.

37 Weeks....Why Can't They Just Cut Them Out Already?!?

NYE was super quiet. Boyfriend and I stayed at home and watched Selena. Love that movie! Then we watched the Space Needle's fireworks on TV. We've become that couple.
Actually, he's concerned about drinking and not being able to drive me to the hospital and then looking like a horrible boyfriend/father. Except, B doesn't get drunk. In the two years we've known eachother I've never seen him drunk, so we could have gone somewhere, but didn't.

New Years Day, Boyfriend and I did what my family does every year: we went to my grandma's for cornbread and black eyed peas.

Then B convinced my dad and step-mom to let him help clean out this monstrosity:
their garage. They're not hoarders exactly, but my dad doesn't like to get rid of anything! (At one point he actually said, "We can't get rid of those, those are my hunting long johns - they're still good." He hasn't hunted since at least 1993 or 1994! And he was thinner then, he was teeny-tiny....I doubt they'll fit.) And my step-mom has a shopping problem. B's been wanting to do a Clean House type thing for at least a year and a half.

My lady bits had been hurting since NYE, along with the top of my thighs and my hips. I felt like I'd worked every muscle in that area out for at least 6 hours, and I kind of felt like Baby A's foot would eventually fall out, so my step-mom convinced me to call the consulting nurse. The consulting nurse called the on-call doctor who said I should go to the hospital to get checked out even though I was probably fine.So this is how I spent New Years Night:
Getting another NST, having my blood pressure checked, etc.Everything was fine and I was in fact sent home. The nurse and doctor are super impressed with how well I'm carrying twins, but were shocked that my legs and feet are so swollen since my blood pressure is so good. I kind of wish they would have decided just to cut the babies out of me already.
