Such a Great Thanksgiving

My Thanksgiving was fabulous! We ended up at my Grandma's Wednesday evening to drop off my mom and sister then Boyfriend and I headed overr to my Aunt and Uncle's house. I've always said boyfriend is like a 12 year old boy and staying at my aunt and uncle's confirmed it. When we woke up Thursday morning, boyfriend fit right in playing Rock Band with my cousins who are 9 and 12.

Boyfriend even said "It's like their big brother is home from college" I'm glad he was able to fit right in :)

Thanksgiving dinner was FABULOUS! My aunts, Grandma and mom prepared everything but us kids were the first to dig in. Notice the gigantic pile of mashed potatoes

The mashed potatoes had to feed all 17 of us and boy it did! They were almost all gone by the end of dinner.

Obviously, 17 of us couldn't fit around Grandma's table anymore so we kind of split up into three groups with most of the adults sitting at the table, a few people eating in front of the TV and then the kids and one aunt and uncle spread around the living room. All the cousins are really close in age so it was really fun catching up with them and getting to know my cousin's English boyfriend who had tried pumpkin pie for the first time the day before. We laughed so much throughout dinner. Man I miss my cousins!

The best part of the evening was just hanging out with my aunt who is battling cancer right now. She has such a great attitude and even though she wasn't feeling so hot she pushed through it and made it through the night anyway, she's so inspiring!

But my trip wasn't over yet, part two tomorrow !

Over The River and Through the Woods

To Grandmother's house we go! I am so excited to leave for my Grandma's house tomorrow. It's been over 10 years since all six of my mom's brothers and sisters have gotten together for the holidays. They're not all going to be there for dinner but hopefully I'll see everyone and I'm excited to see all my cousins. Boyfriend's even going. He's such a good sport - not only is it our first Thanksgiving together but he's driving us to hang out with family he's only met once! Some he's never even met.....oh how quickly he'll be swept up in the chaos of a big family.

I have so many things to be thankful for this Thanksgiving!

Does Anybody Know How to Un-Mod Podge?

My mom thought it'd be a good idea to try and make this train case look like an old steamer trunk with stamps all over it.

It doesn't look anything like a steamer trunk and I am so stinking angry everytime I see what she did. My childhood memories of playing with this train case are almost like I played with a completely different object. That is not the case in my memories. I have a very strong feeling that things should be left the way our family members left them. If she wanted to ruin a case she should have done it to one from a thrift store. I guess I feel disconnected from the family member who owned it.

Honestly, I have no idea which of my family members owned it, their initials are on it, but I have no idea whose initials are TRS. I think it was a great grandmother's before she got married because my last name is with an L.

So my question is this - does anyone know how to un-mod podge? I really want to confiscate the case from my mom and return it to all of it's original glory.

Get A Free Laptop!

I must admit, I'm doing this for my own selfish reasons: I want a new laptop! David at The Rest is Still Unwritten has been chosen to give away TWO HP Laptops! All you have to do is generate the most buzz about his giveaway and I'm going to do my darndest to make sure I generate the most buzz. His blog is awesome too. He's straight to the point and blunt, which I love. Go check him out!

I feel like I never have anything worthwhile to write about. My try at decorating has stalled a bit with the holidays coming up (trying to spend money on presents instead of myself) and my touches of decorating are nowhere near as gorgeous as the ones on all the blogs I read.

Tonight, Boyfriend and I are going to a cabaret show. It's in this theater that Jimi Hendrix used to hang out at in the 60's. Since I like music so much, it'll be cool to watch a show in a theater a rock legend used to haunt [or maybe he still is :) ]

I don't really know what to expect, the show's put together by this perfromer Tamara the Trapeze Lady.

Apparently Seattle has a huge burlesque scene and she's one of the greats so it'll be fun to see how the evening turns out.

I'm I'm Trying To

My original plan for my bedroom was black and white pictures of Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, etc. This is the one I wanted above my bed, except I wanted it horizontal and in black and white.

I feel like this picture goes along with the whole relaxed, sleeping, bedroom feeling. Since Roomate and I have so many pictures of her in our  Marilyn nook, I feel like more Marilyn would be overkill so I've decided to get a custom wall decal, but here's where you come in. I want a quote about sleeping or dreaming. I want one that's not too long and, so far, my internet search has not returned any results. Do any of you have ideas of quotes or a good website where I can find one?

Track Lighting

Not 10 minutes after I wrote yesterdays post, I opened my email and found a feature Houzz did on track lighting:

Okay, I get it, track lighting can be a way to highlight certain parts of a room and it's a great way to keep lighting out of people's eyes, but Boyfriend put track lighting in that back bedroom people! I (of course) think the room should have a chandelier.....we could find a modern one :)

Boyfriend's House

I'd said yesterday that I've been a busy girl. I didn't really help boyfriend with his house over the weekend but I'm so happy the back bedroom is done I just have to share. He finished building the closet and painting the moulding. He even called me to tell me I was right, he should have painted the molding before he hung it and then touched up the nail holes afterwards. I love it when that happens! :)

The molding really pops which is just what he wanted! Now that the closet's done, he's started moving stuff back in.

He brought the bed, his mom's old desk and Yoda's now found a permanent home back there (so he won't scare the bajeezus outta me every time I walk in the front door) and the room looks so much better!

The best part is, Boyfriend's sister offered to teach me how to sew so once I learn, I can make a duvet cover and curtains for the room!

This brings me to a question. Boyfriend loves track lighting. I'm pretty sure I don't. He wants a modern feel, I think it makes the room seem cold. What are your thoughts?

I've Been a Busy Girl

Just not with my own apartment, sadly. Last weekend I helped my step- mom and sister pick up a new couch, chairs and sideboard for their living room. The living room needed an update - BAD!

This is the couch still in the showroom but three of us moved all three pieces of this up 15+ stairs! What a workout.

Then we picked out paint colors and tried to hurry and paint before my dad comes back from Peru. He likes white walls so we tried to add color before he got home, naturally. I don't have any pictures from before and after...dangit, but my step mom chose Toasted Almond (a light tan) for the walls and an olive-y green for this one accent wall.

Seems I've been doing a lot of painting lately.....oh well, it's fun :)

It Seems I'm the Only One

I don't like fall. Yup, I said it. Everyone else seems so in love with the idea of fall and all the decorating possibilities. I like the idea of fall, I just don't like fall itself. By the end of summer, I'm ready to wear sweaters and cute boots. I'm ready for cozy nights at home and fall jackets. What I'm not ready for is the sopping wet mess Seattle's rain turnes the falling leaves into. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE seattle, just not fall in Seattle.

Sure, that picture looks pretty but it's pouring down rain and what you can't tell is that all that dirt/grass is now mud. The soggy leaves usually clog up the storm drains and create flooding.

I'd LOVE fall if our sopping wet mess of mud stayed dry so I could actually enjoy the changing leaves, the crisp air and all that fall has to offer.

I don't know why this picture won't center!

The only reedeming quality about fall is the fires I get to make in the fireplace!

I realize most of you will not agree with me. It's okay, I'm ready for all of you to convince me otherwise :)

Vintage Black Friday 6

I'm a doofus and completely forgot to post last week for Vintage Black Friday. So here's one of my side tables I have to share:

I believe this table was my dad's from when he was little. It's missing the drawer pull but the original one's sitting in the drawer. One of these days I'll get around to replacing it.

Next week, I've got something to share that I long as I remember to pick it up from my parents.

Okay, I'm off to Gypsy Brocante to see what everyone else has!

Sugar Doll Award!

Thanks Peanut Petunia! Now, I gotta tell ten things about myself and pass this award on to ten other bloggers. Here goes:

All my fingers are crooked like this

1.I can't point straight. I'm "double jointed" and my fingers WILL NOT go straight.

2. I can touch my elbows behind my back. Most people can't (go ahead try it.) I'm the only person I know who can do this.

3. I've been biting my nails for 19 years. I've tried to stop dozens of times but just can't. I wore acrylics up until a few months ago to keep me from doing it but it didn't work, I'd bite my real nail from under the acrylic!

4. Boyfriend and I have the same birthday. January 4th. I accept gifts, cash, and basically anything else that fits in the mail :)

5. I have a waaaaaay overactive imagination. It hinders me from doing things like taking Teddy out at night. I take him out, but the whole time I'm imagining that someone's hiding behind  the bushes ready to jump out and steal me (or Teddy) and Roomate wouldn't know until the next day when I don't show up to work (because she spends a lot of time in her room.)

6. I can't read music. I didn't do band or orchestra in elementary school because I thought I had to already know how to read it.

7. I was in choir for three years eventhough I can't read music and can't sing. I faked it. If the note went up, I went up, but I bet I wasn't singing the right one.

8. I drive a stickshift better than an automatic. Everytime I get in an autmatic, I have to remind myself to only drive with one foot.

9. My hair is naturally wavy/curly. I won't leave the house without fixing it so I flat iron it every day. I also don't leave the house without makeup or in sweats. It's my dad's fault.

10. I'm a hopeless romantic. I seem pragmatic and level-headed a lot of the time but I hope to one day marry somebody who absolutely cannot live without me. He has to adore me. I picture being completely swept off my feet and living happily ever after. (I'm too level-headed to think our life together will be all sunshine and roses.)

Current Obsession: Wall Decals

It's no secret that I'm feigning to find the perfect thing above my bed. I have a huge, blank wall and it drives me bananas!

I bought this wall decal I thought would be perfect but it ended up being perfect somewhere else. I love that decal so much, I've got big plans for at least two others in my room (once I find the right ones) so how delighted was I when I found Lolly Jane today? One word: very.

Her new baby girls room - delicious!

Tales of a Sports- Themed Bedroom

Boyfriend's been letting me help with his house! Eventhough we've been together for almost a year, I still don't want him to feel like I'm taking over so I haven't suggested any changes for his house but Thursday night he told me he wanted to paint this bedroom he's been working on and he was thinking of doing a "power wall" in blue. I told him I'm really loving grey walls right now so he decided on blue and grey. He bought the paint aftr work the next day and got right to work.
I hated it! This color scheme reminds me of the Seahawks

Look at how dark those walls are!

All I thought about when I looked at the room was hanging tacky, plastic, little boy's football memorabilia on the walls. Luckily, when Boyfriend started to paint the ceiling, we both thought the ceiling color would be better on the walls. So boyfriend gave me free reign to pick out a lighter grey for the ceiling (all by myself!)

You can barely see the darker grey peeking out under the "new grey" walls.

The only picture I got of all three colors. These three greys look a lot better. Boyfriend knows I still don't love the blue wall but it's not my house :) Next up, we're hanging crown molding!

So I Know It's Not Halloween Anymore But....

I wanted to love my Halloween costume Saturday night. I had picked out this cute pin-up style mechanic costume but it didn't fit quite like I thought. At the last minute, I convinced Boyfriend to be a mechanic too so I wouldn't feel like such a floosey :) We looked everywhere for coveralls, but would you believe that even automotive places don't carry them? They suggested Wall-Mart and Target!

We went to a house party, this is the first house-party I've gone to in five years! (I was a club promoter for three/four years,) but the party ended up really fun.
Do you see the spout near the bottom? I can't imagine why anybody wouldn't drink out of it ;)
